Premier's Message |
Mooloolaba Outrigger Canoe Club (MOCC) is extremely pleased to host the Outrigger Canoe National Marathon Titles yet again in 2010. As the premier event on the paddling calendar, the National Titles has been showcased at some magnificent locations around Australia in the past, but the sport's governing body, AOCRA (Australian Outrigger Canoe Racing Association), awarded Mooloolaba OCC the right to hold the event for three consecutive years from 2009 through 2011.
The Titles is an annual event bringing together the best outrigger paddlers in the country, competing for national supremacy in various six-person canoe marathon events. Participants from all walks of life range in age from 10 to 70+ and take part in a weekend of races, seminars and social events.
Held this year on 10th/11th April, visitors can watch the excitement and drama in spectacular autumn conditions as the races take off from one of the most beautiful beaches on the Sunshine Coast - Mooloolaba. Come along to watch all the thrills and spills from the cafes, family parks and endless stretches of white sand. Even browse the paddling merchandise or grab a coffee from one of the refreshment stands and chat to some of the competitors.
Mooloolaba OCC plans to further build on the success of last year’s titles to ensure the event's future on the Sunshine Coast, so book your paddling holiday now and come and enjoy all that this beautiful region has to offer.
* Proudly supported by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council *
The 2010 Outrigger Canoe National Marathon Titles is also benefitting from funding under the Queensland Events Regional Development Program (QERDP).
The QERDP is an investment program designed to extend the flow of economic and social benefits of events to regional Queensland.
A state-wide initiative, the program is committed to enhancing existing events in regional Queensland, as well as assisting in the establishment of new events.
Since the QERDP began in 2001, more than $12.5 million has been invested in 600 regional events, an indicator of the important role these events play in their communities and wider Queensland.
