In line with AOCRA SQZ’s recommendations, our regatta will be comprised of a short course of 8km which will be run within the confines of Laguna Bay (but hopefully incorporate some downwind run), a number of shorter courses for the juniors and a 16 km long course which will be chosen according to conditions to include as much of a downwind run as possible.
If conditions are too windy or dangerous the courses will be changed to the bay or moved to the river so there will a race of some description irrespective of the weather.
As always we would appreciate paddlers entering early to enable us to arrange appropriate numbers of support craft which is never easy at the best of times.
Race headquarters will be located at Noosa Main Beach, west of the Middle Groyne. Access to the beach is from Claude Batten Drive which is a continuation of Hastings St (see Map)

This is a small car park and will not accommodate all paddlers’ vehicles but there is a host of other car parks on both sides of Claude Batten Drive.
Please do not block the emergency access to the beach at the first car park which leads to the life guard tower, thank you.
Online registration is through the AOCRA website. Registrations close on Wednesday 19th July 2017 and late fees will apply from midnight 19th July onwards. (Late fees are $100 for senior and $50 for junior) If you are having difficulties before the cut off date please contact Connie Withrington on 0422 937 483
Senior paddler: $20 per race Junior paddler: $10 per race Ski/SUP (AOCRA Member): $20 per race (register as an OC 1 but put notes in rego entry that you are a ski or SUP paddler otherwise you will need to pay extra $8) Ski/SUP (non AOCRA Member): $20 plus $8 insurance fee.
All paddlers should ensure they sign in at the registration desk. This will assist in the accuracy of the results and for safety reasons. Each paddler should ensure s/he has a lifejacket on the canoe or on their person and that the canoe has a leg leash. Please don’t make us disqualify paddlers, as we have had to in the past, due to the lack of safety equipment. We will have club members checking canoes as they leave the beach and as they return.
Medals for juniors AOCRA SQZ will be providing medals for the juniors and the prize giving will be held during the long course. Courses
The planned courses are as shown. However, these may change depending on prevailing weather conditions. If the race needs to be moved to the river the launch site is but a short walk away and there will be no need to move your vehicles.
Notes There will be no food tent at the event. However, there is no need for you to go hungry as there is a food court, supermarket and no end of cafes down on Hastings Street all within a short walk of the venue.
SQ Zone AOCRA Prize
Again this year the committee of SQZ have agreed to sponsor a canoe as a prize for the race series. This canoe will be available for racing by a junior should any one wish to try out the canoe. Each entry by a SQZ member will give them an extra ticket for the draw for the canoe which will be held at the last regatta.
