Want to try outrigger canoe paddling? |
|
Are there any requirements?
You must be able to swim competently in the ocean. We train in all conditions in exposed waters and you will get wet!
Where do I go?
The MOCC shed is located at the Mooloolaba Marina on Parkyn Parade - to the right of the commercial shops and on the other side of the Marina shower and laundry block. Click here for a map.

What do I bring?
We will provide paddles and safety gear for novice paddlers. However, please be aware we paddle in the open ocean in varying conditions much of the time. If you are not a strong swimmer (cannot swim a minimum 400m or tread water for 10 minutes) and need to wear a Type 1 PFD while paddling, you may wish to bring your own compact model. The club will only provide the bulky yellow 'brick' type for emergency situations. Please see our Safety page for more information.
Bring clothes you don't mind getting wet - board shorts, rash shirt or anything quick-drying - plus a hat, drink bottle (ideally with a bottle holder that straps around your waist), sunscreen and sunglasses, if you wish. However, please don't bring or wear anything in the canoe that you would be devastated to lose to the ocean!
It's also always good to bring a change of clothes, a towel and maybe even a plastic bag to throw your wet gear into.

For information on fees, please check out our membership page. Winter is the best time of year to get into outrigger paddling. The OC6 race season has finished and you'll be able to learn technique and increase fitness in a relaxed atmosphere. |
